Historic Foodways Society of the Delaware Valley

Dedicated to the Promotion and Understanding of Food History

About Us

The Historic Foodways Society of the Delaware Valley (HFSDV) began in October of 1994, when thirty men and women came together to preserve the rich foodways culture of the Delaware Valley.  Since that first meeting, our membership has continued to grow. We are fortunate to live in a region that is culturally diverse and historically endowed.  The Society provides its members with informational programs four times a year, a quarterly newsletter, and an opportunity for people who are interested in culinary culture to gather and learn from experts and from each other.

The Marty Van Atta Scholarship Fund

The Marty Van Atta Scholarship Fund was started as a memorial to long time member Mary Van Atta who sadly passed away in 2008.  The Scholarship will be presented to a student interested in the field of Foodways and Culinary History.  Recipients will receive a MEMBERSHIP into the HFSDV for one year as well as a FULLY PAID ADMISSION to a meeting of their choice.  A form will be added to this site soon so that you may nominate a student for this Scholarship.  Please note you must be a CURRENT MEMBER in order to make a nomination.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the Scholarship Fund should make out a check to HFSDV indicating the funds should be deposited into the Marty Van Atta Scholarship Fund on the bottom left hand corner of the check.  Please e-mail manager@historicfoodways.org for mailing information.
